Governor Ivey Issues Executive Order Extending the Voter Registration Deadline

September 11, 2017 MONTGOMERY - Due to state and county office closures caused by Hurricane Irma, voter registration applications can now be submitted electronically via: Alabama Votes until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, September 12, 2017.

The Code of Alabama does not permit the Secretary of State to extend the deadline however Secretary Merrill worked in tandem with Governor Ivey's office to request an executive order be issued to extend the opportunity for Alabamians to register in advance of the September 26 runoff.

The Governor has extended the deadline for applications to be submitted in person to Tuesday, September 12, 2017. This means anyone wishing to register to vote in time to participate in the September 26 runoff for the Republican nomination for the the Alabama Senate seat must do so in person by close of business tomorrow September 12, 2017 or online by 11:59 p.m. Additionally, paper applications that are postmarked September 12, 2017 will be accepted.
